Question about the military?

My friend was suppose to have 2 weeks leave after basic training because his MOS required 6 months of advanced training. Which is MI. They told him that they were going to let him go and everything. Then last minute they told him he had to report in right after graduation. My question is could there be a valid reason why they want him to report back? Or are they being a******s like I think and in all likeliness they probably are being. He said they gave him no reason why his orders changed. He bought his plane ticket and everything too............

  1. well frankly the government ***** you over. i personally have 3 brothers in the military and all 3 of them have gotten screwed out of time off leave, so unfortunately its the government

  2. Like most above have said, it is more than likely a schedule change that he had to adapt to.  As for them being a******s, at this point in his career, there is really no one he could have pissed off enough that could have made this change.  Orders come down from much higher than a Basic Training unit.

Sorry for the heart ache this has cause you, him and his family.  But the Military is fluid, and we must adjust.

  3. It isn't that they are being a******s, it is that once you join the military you are subject to their schedule changes. Things may have changed that your friend was not aware of. Maybe they have a class that is scheduled and they had some openings that they needed to fill. In these cases it is always easier to just go with the flow, though it is sometimes hard to do. I think that it is a obvious difference between a military and civilian mindset. You friend needs to realize this and choose to think with his military mind, that is the only way he/she will make it successfully through their contract.

  4. Dude the same thing happened to my son in law.  I was in the Army for 13 years so I knew where to go to ask some questions.  The reason I got in our case was the scheduling of classes.  My daughter was extremly upset as they had already spent the money and made plans, and it all went up in smoke (expensive smoke). No not that kind.  Any way, the military usually won't just "s***w" with you.  There is a bigger issue that you and your friend are un aware of.  Heavy duty "being a******s" usually happens only after a soldier gets to a regular unit and someone decides to "show them how the military works".  That is when it is on purpose.  It's the people in the uniform that end up being the a******s, not the service as an entire entity.

  5. One reason could be that there was an opening for the A school and rate that he chose at the last minute. If it was on his Paperwork that he was to have a two week leave and then he didnt, they might reinburse him but he would have to talk to his Chief or someone up in rank, Maybe the CMC if it is possible.

  6. It doesn't really matter if they have a valid reason or not.  Once you join the military, they own your *** until they decide to let you go.  Sucks.  Sorry your friend has to deal with that stuff.
