  1. Going in to the military so you can "pay for college" doesn't make financial sense. The army, navy,or what ever, will give you MORE money if you have some type of college education. Even going for 6 months will start you at a higher rank.

Do the math, Calculate how much more money you would make in 4 years starting at a higher rank compared to joining with out a real education.

Anyone can get a student loan. If you're really that bad off you can get grants and go for free anyway.

  2. i doubt it, but im not sure my buddys in the usmc and hes goin to college, who did u hear this from? another marine? if u have doubts join the army they got tons of $$ to support your college expenses

  3. I think you need to think this out a little more....

  4. it might be true, but if you dont have a passion to serve your country, dont join. dont do it just for tuition money, do it because you want to serve the land your forefathers fought for. if you're only in it for the money, dont join.

  5. what do you think?

i mean i have friends who are reserves and stuff, and they keep getting sent to iraq despite the fact that they already went once or twice.

if you join the USMC remember you are primarily there to shoot and blow up stuff.  (really).  And wax officer's cars of course.  Get everything in writing with your recruit as to where you will be stationed and make a copy of it.  Some recruiters mess with you.  It might be better just to go to school rather than joining something like the USMC just for the money to go to college.  You might try a less combative military branch like the coast guard if you want to go to college.  They have the same scholarships and whatnot.  Of course you better like the water

  6. GI bill applies to everyone and I don't foresee a decrease in benefits.  But joining "just to go to college" is a really bad idea for a lot of reasons. If you want money for college, get a scholarship.  Joining the services meant a commitment to defend something other than your self-interest.  They by-product could be that you get money for college, but should not be your only reason.  If going to college is your only reason for joining, you will learn to hate life when you are in the sand box.

  7. "I am only doing this to go to college though"... umm, to answer the question, the Corps isn't holding back College money, no Branch is... in fact, the Branches aren't sending anybody to college, that is the individuals choice to go... around the needs, and deployments of the Military.

Now, as for the quote... please don't join just for that reason. That isn't the purpose of the Military in general, and the Corps especially.

  8. yes,and there also making it hard on the older war veterns to get beneifits because there are so many young ones coming home disabled. if thats the only reason your signing up. you need to look at other ways.
