I think the movie was supposed to be taking place circa 1980. My question is did they have ATM machines back then, and is that what they were called??

  1. The modern, networked ATM was invented in Dallas, Texas, by Don Wetzel in 1968. They are also referred to as  CITs (Cash Issuing Terminal).

  2. Yes, to your question :)

Having Lived through the 80's, I can remember the 1st one going up in my city. It was circa 1984,,, - And I live in a big city, not a small town..

They were formally called "Cash Withdrawal Machines",  "Bank Machines" and "Cash Machines" but as time went on, the label ATM from the machines themselves just stuck and is now part of our lingo.

    Cheers! (and hi):)
