I left the National Guard as an E-3 and wanna know if I can join the navy reserves and get an A-school. I wanna switch my job I am a 21W which is equivalent to a BU, but I want a completely different job. I know a little bit a bout the Navy because I trained with the CB's, but just don't know all the details on enlistment and such please any help would be appreciated (just want someone to walk we through on the details before I talk to a recruiter) unless its hateful and not productive thanks

  1. Unless you were discharged with anything besides honorable, were discharged early (such as for medical reasons), or had a bad reenlistment code (such as when you're overweight or had discipline problems) you should be able to enlist into the Navy if you want to.  As for the job you want to do, you just need to check with a recruiter to make sure you meet all the qualifications like age, skills, physical abilities, etc. for that job.  You might find yourself referred to a prior service recruiter, depending on the area.  Also, most services don't require you to go through a full boot camp if you've served in another branch previously.  The Marines are the only ones who do.  The rest will send you through a shorter refresher course, just to brush you up on service-specific customs and policies.  Most likely you will be kept at E-3, but it's up to the service.  Good luck!
