Question about the "Find a penny, pick it up" superstition.?

I know about the "find a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck" if it's heads up superstition but does anybody know about the penny turning your luck to bad if you hold onto it for too long?

Find a penny pick it up. All day long you'll have good luck. Find a penny let it lay, bad luck you shall have all day.

I usually hold them for a day and then release them where someone else will benefit.

no i know if its on tails you pick it up and give it to a friend and you both have good luck

I've never heard of a penny that's been picked up while heads up turning your luck bad if you hold on to it for an extended period of time. But then again, how much luck could a single penny hold? I suppose the penny would eventually stop "holding" luck and that lack of luck might cause some bad luck to follow...If that made any sense...
