  1. ...what is wrong with you?

Yes, in 10 years all the anesthesiologists in the world will be out of a job, because we will have super nurses, and the former anesthesiologists will all go knocking on your door. Every single one in the world. Hope you've got a big house and lots of fresh bed linens!

  2. Anestheologists are qualified doctors and can easily slot into another role.

  3. While there are plenty of very qualified nurse anesthetists, there are also a fair number that are scary.  When I medically direct a case, there are times that I have to change plans to keep the patient safe.  Not a lot of the time, but sometimes.

When the p**p hits the fan, they call us, not the other way around.

There is a chance that a dichotomy will occur, and socialized medicine will be run by mid-level providers, and those who choose to pay will get to see physicians.

  4. Nurses will NEVER be in control of anesthesia.  Current nurse anesthetists cannot work on their own.  They need a doctor to oversee them.  With the difficult cases, you will need an anesthesiologist to control the anesthesia cocktail and maintain the airway.  The complex cases require a knowledge of a physician or a PhD in pharmacology.

  5. I don't think that it will become dead. That will just be there specialty. They may have to learn other areas to work in but anesthesiology being there main target area.
