  1. Once removed is one generation from you, for instance, your fathers first cousin = your first cousin once removed.  Your grandfather's first cousin = your first cousin twice removed, great gr. father's cousin = your 1st cousin three times removed, and so on.

    It applied for either acsending or descending generations, in other words,

    Your first cousin's children = your first cousins once removed and their children = your first cousins twice removed, and so on.

    :-)  Hope this makes sense

    If you want to see a good chart that explains this, follow this link:

  2. First off:  In order for you and someone to be First Cousins, you must have common Grandparents;

    Second cousins have common Great Grandparents:

    Etc, etc.  "straight cousins" of ANY number have the EXACT same number of "great" before the term "Grandparent"

    NOW.  If your Grandparents are someone Else's Great Grandparents, you are First cousins ONCE REMOVED (meaning,  one generation different).

    My gods, I know that I just gave some people ulsers and headaches.  This isn't easy unless you work with it all the time, I know.
