I usto be a demo so don't accuse me of being a brainwashed consertave.......I have a question for Democrates i get the republican line of thinkin but I don't get your why is it you all think that pulling out of the war will magicly make things better? Even as a demo i still thoguht we should stay in the war it makes more sence to mne...

Understanding what is proposed is a good first step.

The only candidate suggesting an immediate withdrawl was Republican Ron Paul.

What Obama and Democrat Congressional Leaders have called for is a detailed plan, including a time line, for handing over responsibility for Iraqi security to those with whom that responsibility should rest: a democratically elected Iraqi government.

The argument that we should stay until the job is done is flawed for two reasons.

First we have not really defined how we will know the "job is done". Thus the call to have criteria defined and planned for.

Second - this creates an environment where Iraqi authorities have no incentive to actually prepare to take over.

The arguments for it being desirable to hand over to Iraqi authorities are fairly simple. Our current presence is costing us a fortune (despite assurances from the government that it would not). It is our young men dying and being wounded looking after someone else's nation. And our very presence could be creating as much trouble (both in Iraq and for us) due to the resentment it causes feeding militant organization recruitment.

Iraq needs to become self-reliant and thats not going to happen if we are in Iraq...I also don't like this attitude we have with Iran and Valenzuela...Disaster II is coming with McCain

If you ask the common democrat, they believe the lies about the war. "It's for oil" "It's for Bush's profit" "Hussein didn't have weapons of mass destruction" "Americans are dying needlessly" "It's an illegal war" ... all these lies and more. If you ask the BIG IMPORTANT democrats under water boarding they will tell you we will stay in the war because He did have WMD's and pulling out would cripple America and it's relations with allies for decades. There would be a blood bath in Iraq and terrorist fascist Muslims of Iran will take over the country murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent people who cooperated with the USA and the Government now in power. They Just want to pin the loss of life and genocide on Bush if they could.

It might not make things better and it might not make things worse, but it will stop costing american lives and money.  The "funny" thing everyone is afraid not that Iraq will go back to being as bad as it was under Saddam, but that it will be worse.

Actually, most people cannot believe things will get better. This goes back to the line of thinking during the Nam war. People get hurt or die during war, so we need to get our people out of harm's way. The fact that this accomplishes nothing, but preventing any more casualties of our people is alright, because it is not our people.

We need to keep a presence in Iraq and Afghanistan so that their governments have a chance of forming and become capable of leading and securing their own country.
