I got paid $500... I used my debit card to make a $50 purchase.. ok, when I checked after it my account said $450.. and when I checked at midnight last night, my account said, $400.. I called the bank, and asked them about it, they said, "At first it's going to show it came out because it's pending.. and then once it goes through, it's actually charged and posted.." Ok.. so why does it look like they took out $100?? Why not put my other $50 back in?? Can someone explain this

  1. This sounds quite odd. I've seen this with credit cards because they need authorization. Certainly not with debit cards. There's not really any 'pending' status with debit cards, since the funds are automatically withdrawn for the purchase or else you wouldn't be able to leave the store for the merchandise. It makes it reduntant to have a pending automatic transaction.

Call you bank back ASAP...go in person if you have to.

  2. The funds DO pend on a debit card--it is not automatic. This happens anywhere where they have to put a hold, or just over the weekend. For example, at restaurants, they take more out, cause they have to put a tip through, and sometimes more is held out of the account. And remember, the money that comes out of your account is always the vendor, and not the banks doing. So, I would contact the vendor, and I would notify the bank if the weekend passes and it isn't corrected. The bank cant put in what the vendor took out, the only thing the bank has to go by is what the vendor said you bought. I am pretty sure you'll be ok--it is pretty common. Hope this helps!
