  1. Does it have to be minolta MD mount?

If so I would go for an X-500 or X-570, or if you want something really nice to use an SRT-303.

The x500 / x570 is the same model for different markets and is superior to the x700 in a few ways.

For a run down go to the rokkor files site.

If you aren't tied to Minolta MD mount then I would look for a nikon FE, FA or FM FM2 FM3 as nikon have a current & compatible DSLR system in the same nikon F mount.  It will cost you a bit more but will be worth it longer term.

If you can't run to a ikon then look at Pentax K-series cameras, the K1000 is the cassic student camera, and again, Pentax K-mount lenses are compatable with a current DSLR system (Pentax and Samsung)

  2. Well if you expect to later buying a DSLR, you will want to buy a good used 35 mm Nikon or Canon SLR camera ... They cost from between $50 and $200 with a standard zoom lens on craigslist
