Question:

Question about torrent clients slowing down internet connection...?

Every time I download a file using a torrent client, my connection gets very slow for everything else (browser, etc). This also happens to everyone else in the house because we all share one router. My question is, is there any way to be able to download files but prevent the slowdown? Thanks.

  1. That usually is due to the upload speed in your bittorrent client being set too high and also may be due to too many open connections in your BT client.

This is a good guide on proper setup of your BT client:

  2. Most torrent programs have a download/upload limit settings. This will prevent your computer from taking all of the bandwidth. Make sure to change the download AND the upload.

If you use Azuerues or uTorrent, you can just right click on the download speed and set the limit to a lower setting. Anything else you will have to look through the settings.
