When i buy this guys bike - do i have to go down to the DMV to register it or can i do it all thru the mail. Kinda confusing about what the documents say about "use tax". Does the DMV send you a bill for the "use tax"" when you get your title or do you have to go down to the DMV and pay the "use tax". What I'm talking about is basically a sales tax you have to pay on the purchase price of the vehicle whether used or new.

  1. check the dmv site for the state you live in. i got title transfer- registration and plates at my local bank. didnt even have to stand in line.

  2. make an appointment at the dmv and enjoy your trip

  3. you have to go to the dmv and the taxes are paid when you submit paperwork for the new title.  So you're combined cost will be taxes+however much it costs for title transfer and plates

  4. i don't know what state you live in, but i used to work for the dmv in colorado. all title work has to be done at the dmv, not thru the mail. there are usually more than one tax that you have to pay. state, county, etc. make sure that when the guy signs over the title to you, he signs his name on the back EXACTLY how it reads on the front of the title. there can be NO mistakes--DON'T scratch or rewrite over anything-if you make a mistake, just go down to the section right under where you messed up, and start all over again. there should be no eraser marks, and all liens need to be released on the front of the title. the odometer can be "0" if it's already turned over, OR the odometer has to move up--it cannot be a lower number than what reads on the front of the title. your name should also be written on the back, the way it is written on your state i.d. hope this helps!
