Question about turtles????

i have an aquatic turtle!!i no wat to feed him meat wise but as far as veggies are concerned im not sure!! i am feeding him bananas and lettuce and he eats that but i want to no if i have anymore options!! thanks it will help alot ohh and he is a wild turtle that i caught!!

He's a wild turtle, get him back in the wild.

He's not meant to be a pet..

Congratulations. You are well on your way to killing your turtle. Small turtles are almost completely carnivorous. Larger ones may accept some vegetable matter in their diet. Some. When you say there is no way to feed him meet, do you mean that you just don't have meat in your house? How about giving him earthworms, fishes (not goldfish) or soft-bodied insects? Or you could break down and get him some liver.

since he is a wild-caught turtle, my advice would be to put it right back where you caught it.  wild-caught turtles do not make good pets.  if you want a pet turtle, get one from a reputable breeder.  aquatic turtles should not eat lettuce or bananas.  please release the turtle before you kill it.

I have had my 2 slider  girls for 36 yrs. Plus an 8 and 5 yr old and now a 2 yr old that was adopted last week from this site.... Been in a pond for almost 7 yrs now.

May I say ask when you said ..meat, what did you mean?

I am no expert and I won't tell ya want to do. I am sure you have read and studied what they take but just in case..

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA for 8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system! Gravel larger than they can swallow.

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear! This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

They need leafy greens( Romaine, Butter lettuce. Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 3 to 4 times a week.

You probably already know that they get sick easily, shell rot, respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing,blowing bubbles

I SAVED A TURTLE FROM THE WILD BECAUSE HIS SHELL WAS BASHED IN AND HE MADE A FULL RECOVERY BUT INOTICEDD HOW HAPPY HE WAS WITH MY CAPTIVE TURTLE AND I WAITED A COUPLE MONTHS FOR HIM TO GETBOREDD BUT BUT HE NEVER DID AND I REALIZED HE HAD BEEN LIVING IN  A TANK FOR 6 MONTHS AND WAS ONLY 3 INCHESACROSSS AND WAS DEPENDENT ON HUMAN FOOD BUT I WAS BORED OF GIVING HIM DRY FOOD IN A CAN SO I GOT BABY CARROTS AND CUT THEM BITE SIZE AND WITH DAILYMINOSS FROM THE LOCAL PONDI'MMHOPINGG TO RELEASE HIM SOON (DON'TT FEED HIM MEAT MORE THAN VEGGIES ANDPELE TSS OF DRY FOOD FISH IS THE BEST MEAT FOR THEM) A RATIO OF 20% MEAT 40%VEGGIES AND 40%DRY FOODD ALSO TRY TO GET HIM TO EAT LIVE FISH ABOUT THE WIDTH OF HIS MOUTH SO YOU CANEVENTUALLYYRELEASEE HIM KEEP IN MIND PEOPLE THAT AREGOINGNG TCRITICIZEZE THIS THAT THE TURTLE I RESCUED WAS BADLY INJUREDED AND GOING TO DIE OF PREDATORS WITHIN A FEW DAYS!
