We recently addopted two new kittens (brothers from the same litter) and when they are taking there naps sometimes they will wake up and l**k eachother. Its not a problem or anything, I was just wondering what the purpose of this was. Is it to accually clean eachother or are they just being affectionate?

  1. cleaning and affection.  they stimulate facial hormones, which make them happy.

  2. It's what they learned from their mother... I have 2 cats (sisters from the same litter) who do that too.

They l**k themselves (and each other!) before sleeping and especially after eating because they are getting the "smell" of food, etc.. off of them so predators won't "get" them.

  3. Aww, they l**k each other to groom each other and bond together. It's a way for them to give affection and show they care:) This grooming is usually done between cats that know each other very well.
