Question:

Question about universities abroad?

So, I'm a senior in high school and I'll more than likely be going to Arizona State University next year because it's local and cheap. However, my dream is to go to university abroad (I don't mean like in Laos, probably western Europe or Scandinavia). I know everyone says "oh you can just do study abroad in university" but I checked out ASU's study abroad programs and they don't look that great.. What should I do?

  1. Even though you think that the study abroad programs don't look that great, I think you should try and check out with them if they can help you organize something. They are usually available for students to help them arrange their own study abroad thing.

There is also the possibility that you go and study abroad for you full undergraduate program. However, if you do so, there are many things to take into consideration:

    1. You have to find a university that offers you program in English (unless you are already fluent in any scandinavian or western European language other than English). This is, of course possible in the UK and probably some programs in Scandinavia as well, for sure a Management program for example.

    2. The value of the Euro compared to USD make the cost of your studying there a lot higher, and it is even more expensive in the UK.

    3. The fees for international students are usually a lot higher than the ones for local students. It usually goes up very fast.

    4. Moving abroad requires you to fill a lot of paperwork and also pay for it (visas can cost a few hundred Euros every year, insurance...)

    5. Last but not least, if you want to go back and work in the US, you have to make sure that your diploma will be recognized when you come back.

    Good luck!!
