  1. Keep taking math and science in high school and look for a biology or other related major.  Even if the college you go to doesn't have a specific virology major, a general undergraduate in biology with as many courses in microbiology and molecular biology as possible should be enough to prepare you for graduate work in virology.  Biology, chemistry, math, physics and English classes in high school will all help you.

  2. Go to college and keep going until you get a Ph.D.  You don't need to be in the military to do military research.  You simply need the proper background, and the ability to pass many security clearances.

Find an undergraduate university that offers courses specifically in virology and, as important, molecular biology.  By the time you get your B.S., you'll know how to pick a grad school.

  3. Definitely keep up with your bio and chemistry, you will also need to take physics and advanced math (calculus and statistics). The more you can get done in highschool the easier it will be for you in college. I am not sure about the millitary part of it but if you decide to go college first I would definitely suggest taking microbiology as a major. If you go specifically for virology you might miss out on some of the courses that will be helpful in your career such as bacteriology and immunology. Good luck, it is a great career choice, I personally love it. :)
