Is it true that vulcanic eruptions are afected by factors like the position of the Sun and the Moon? Is it a "tide-like effect"?

  1. When two plates collide, one of the plates goes beneath the other plate. Thus causing a friction in the earth’s crust. The pressure caused by the friction will cause the underlying rocks to melt and help the magma to rise. The hot orange red lava is thrown out of the mountaintop. The volcanoes of this type are considered as a threat to living beings. Their eruptions are violent and cause destruction to all living beings in the vicinity.

  3. No. The moon causes the ocean tides and it's natural to think there would be a similar effect on the earth's surface (earth tides). There have even been earthquake predictions based on the alignment of the moon and planets and the expected increase in gravitational pull on global fault lines and plate boundaries.

While earth tides are an interesting idea, there is no evidence the gravitational pull of the moon is strong enough to trigger a significant event like an earthquake or volcano. This was established through exhaustive statistical analysis of historic earthquakes and correlating lunar patterns. When pull from the moon was at it's greatest, the expectation would be for an increase in tremors. This was not found over hundreds of years of data.

  4. I've never heard of anything like that. What I know is that volcanic eruptions are caused magma pushing through the earths surface when the pressure builds up.
