On my 3 day fast I was allowing myself liquids...just no solid foods. I could have water, juice, milk, broth and even sodas if I wanted.

1st day of fast I was fine except for hunger pangs. Throughout the day I drank water, skim milk and apple juice.

2nd day of fast I seemed to be fine except my hunger was a bit stronger. I had to go to work this day, so I had my usual black coffee. Around lunch time I became extremely nauseous to the point I thought I would throw up, I also had a horrible headache, and felt anxious like I was about to have a panic attack and that's when I noticed pressure in my eye balls. My eyes felt like they were gonna pop out my head. Thoughts were racing through my head and I was scared I might pass out so I ate a piece of toast and jelly and drank a coke. Shortly afterward my headache subsided and I was back to normal. One of my co-workers said she thought my blood sugar had dropped way low -- then another said low blood pressure. LOL I don't know what to think!!

I have no health problems (that I know of). Is what I experienced normal with fasting?

If I had just continued my fast would the nausea, headache and all eventually gone away?

  1. Fasting is dangerous, and will never help someone lose weight permanently. The reason you ended up feeling the way you did is because all of us NEED food on a regular basis, and drinks do not satisfy us the same way food does. Not to mention the hundreds of nutrients you are missing out on that are found in healthy foods. In my opinion (other than smoking, drinking too much, or drug abuse), its one of the worst things you can do to your body. You will feel terrible during your fast (as you now know), and will gain weight when you eat again because it will store your food as fat.

  2. It is very unhealthy to loose weight by fasting. You can't maintain it and as soon as you start eating again you will gain it all back. You need to make sure the liquids you are getting are healthy, drinking soda even on a liquid diet is terrible for you.  Drink slimfast, they have the vitamins and minerals you need. Eat, but eat small well balanced meals. If you want to go on a very strict diet you need to be under a doctor's supervision. You could get very sick by simply depriving yourself of food.
