Hi

I've just started my 5 month old son on baby rice. He really likes it and has been eating the whole bowl. He's only been on it for 1week, is it too soon to give him another bowl at tea time - should I wait another week or 2 or wont it do any harm?

Thanks

  1. Since he's already eating solids a bit earlier than is usually advised, I'd go slow.  Once a day is plenty, and be sure you give him his usual bottles or nursing sessions BEFORE his solids, so that he doesn't fill up on them.  Most babies this age won't want more than a couple of tablespoons at a time, if they are getting their fill of milk.

  2. Give him as much as he wants! My daughter never liked baby rice but she went from having a little bowl of pureed fruit to having a bowl 3 times a day within a week! She loved mango or banana at first, then we tried everything else!

She started at 4 months and she's now 12 months old, and still breastfed, although it's alot more fun going out for meals when baby can eat too. My daughters favourite is chinese!

  3. If your baby is enjoying the food, I would give him more.  I started weaning at 5 months (on advice from HV!) and my son can't get enough of it!  He is now nearly 6 months and is on 3 meals a day.  I am amazed at how much fruit and veg he enjoys e.g. broccoli, spinach, courgettes, figs, prunes etc.  Your baby will 'tell' you what he needs and it sounds like he has a great appetite!

  4. I'd wait. let his body and bowel movement get used to the fact that he something new to taste and dissolve.

waiting will be the best thing.

  5. Nope its fine. Eating at his age should be fun and enjoyable. If he wants it then give it to him, Your original question says its a question about weaning. Are you wondering if this is a time to wean him? Eating the cereal isn't a cue to wean him. If breastfeeding is going well wait til as close to a year as you are comfortable with. The cereal and baby food is supplement to breast milk. the breast milk is still number 1.

  6. its fine.. also if he's a hungry little chap intruduce new flavours, and maybe baby friendly fromage frais as a pud (you can buy ones made out of baby milk )

2 meals a day sounds fine as he seems as if he's wanting it .. its better than giving bigger portions as they can make baby sick.

go with your instincts , your mum and know best . x

    take care hun x
