  1. After weigh-ins you should drink  water, eat a powerbar and a banana. Banana's are probably an athlete's favorite fruit. They are easy to eat, rich in carbohydrates (our primary source of energy when competing athletically), and help us reach nutritional requirements even when cutting weight. Also, try not to drink sports drink like Gatorade before you wrestle. They only help to dehydrate your body. You should only drink Gatorade AFTER your match. If you ever watch sporting events... those large barrels are actually filled with water but the team is sponsored by the company.

  2. One question that will make a big difference - Do you fight the same day as weigh-ins?  Most people can't cut 15 lbs for same-day fights without some pretty significant loss of energy and performance.  I think socalmark hit it dead on with his advice if you are fighting the next day.  I had a buddy that cut weight and about 3 days before a match he ate tons of bran (raisin bran cereal, bran muffins, etc.) - said it cleaned out his system and made cutting easier - I don't know if it's true or not, but he was a top NCAA wrestler back in the 90's.

If it's same day, you may want to lose "walking" weight instead of doing such a big cut.  Lose about 6 or 8 lbs so you don't have to cut so much.  Do your cut of 7 or 8 lbs.  Then re-hydrate with pedialyte, water and eat power bars and bananas like you list - calorie packed, clean energy that will get into your system fast.  I also like gels because they have lots of clean calories, but the energy doesn't last very long - get non-caffeinated ones if you get them.

  3. Oh, the woes of weight cutting....I know your pain man.

    Here's what I do:

    -get within 10 pounds

-one week out-2 gallons of water a day

-eat fruit, small bowls of cereal, non-fat yogurt, power bars

-24 hours before weigh in:  No water (small sips)

-eat VERY lite, maybe half a banana and some grapes

    -cut/sauna/run...etc.

    After weigh in:

Drink a cup of water every 1/2 hour...no matter what.

Try pedialite/baby food/ small amounts of pasta

    hope this helps

  4. Baby or infant food is easier to digest and has a lot of nutrition and calories..
