Hey All, Thanks for the help. I just bought a 159 Wide Burton Custom X, Im just a litle over 6'1 and weigh between 170-175. I like to ride all over, park, basic terrain, backcountry etc. Basically all mountain. I'm a little worried its a little short, however the next step up is a 164 Wide. The custom X is a pretty stiff board and I dont weigh alot, do you think I made the right choice? Would really appreciate the help. By the way, im riding it with Cartel bindings and burton Hal boots. Thanks

P.S I have been riding for about 7-8 years, can snowboard about anything and can do basic tricks / big air.

Thanks for the answer last night TahoeT

  1. Honestly bro, since you've been riding for 7-8 years, there's nothing any of us can tell you about which board is right for you.  The basic rules that everyone follows are for getting started; kind of universal averages, good starting points.  It's up to you to know exactly what you want in a board.

I've ridden with guys that are 5'7" and ride 160s, and I've riden with 6'4" guys that ride 155s.  It's all about your style and what you're looking for from your board.

Personally, I'm pretty close to the middle of the road as an all mountain freeboarding type.  I'm 5'9", 190 lbs, and ride a 155 Never Summer 80% of the season.  Shorter when I feel like whippin 'er around, and longer when I just want to point and ride.

My vote, 164 is pretty stinkin long.  At 175 lbs, even with your height, I'd say you're at a real good place at 159.  And there's only one way to find out:-)

  2. For an All mountain set up id say an 159 will be good for you. But as a rider who has been riding eight years you will probably have a preference to long or short boards, and your ideal length based on weight/height is kind of in the middle of those two about a 161. So go with either depending on whether you like a long or a short board personally if i was you id definately go for the 159 and think overall it would be a safer bet. Good Luck with the Riding.

  3. Hey man, the board you got is an awesome board.  By being 6'1" you will only lose a little stability on it but not much, because your board is wide, you still have stability because you dont weigh that much.  The only thing I would suggest doing differently is possibly getting a toe cant plate for your binders, it will help with your heelside turns and reduce toe drag if you have that problem.  Other that that, it is not actually that bad of a size when you are just riding all mountain.  It is small enough to spin yet large enough for backcountry booters and landings.  The Cusom X is a stiff board but you can still get alot of pop out of it and it will last quite awhile.  If you were thinking about getting more into park type stuff you definately dont want a bigger board.  My best friend is 6'2" and rides a 160 which is not even a noticeable difference to your board and he absolutely loves it.  Another thing you can do is to widen your stance...that will help with stability, I am 5'11" and ride 22 inches wide with a 18 degree front and minus 18 degree back foot, super stable on the snow and rails...  Happy riding!!
