and by how much.

Im deciding on a hospital to have my baby.

Hospital A is 25 minutes away and approx 25km's going suburban/back streets.

Hospital B is 35 minutes away and approx 50km's going down the highway.

Hospital B is preferred hospital.

Does high ways use less fuel than back streets? Would hospital B cost much more in travel?

Thanks (ill have to do frequent pre-birth trips there not just the one off)

  1. You're having a baby. WHO CARES if the better hospital is 10 minutes farther away.  Do what's best for the baby (and the mom)

  2. If there was no preferred hospital, take the back streets.  A highway drive, I imagine it's difficult to pull over in case you have to stop suddenly.

The difference is 10 minutes, a woman in labor, and an excited driver.  I would not want to think of the risk of accident on a fast road, the impact speed.  But since you have the hospital you want, take the highway, because at a certain speed, your car conserves gas.
