I need to buy a new cordless phone and I am looking to get a dual handset because of the amount phone jacks I have which is just one :(

I noticed that there are two types of cordless phones. I currently have a 5.8GHz phone and there is another new one out called DECT 6.0 Digital. I recently purchased a laptop and plan on going wireless. I am not currently wireless i have an ethernet cable pugged directly into my laptop. Will my current cordless phone 5.8GHz one interfere with the wireless. I live in a small apartment. sorry I am new to the whole laptop and wireless thing. Please help :)

  1. not at all the only phones you have to worry about interfering with your computer are 2.4 GHz  that is the frequency also shared with wireless routers for computers

  2. 5.8 GHz phones should work fine near Wireless-G (802.11g) routers.

I have two Panasonic 5.8 GHz phone base-units only a foot away from my Linksys Wireless-G Router and have never had a RFI interference problem between them.

If you are looking at DECT-6 phones, they should not be a problem either around Wireless-G or Wireless-N routers.  DECT-6 phones use the 1.9 GHz band, while Wireless-G uses 2.4 GHz band;  and Wireless-N use both 2.4/5.0 GHz bands.  Neither of these frequencies should interfere with 1.9 GHz DECT-6 phones or 5.8 GHz phones.

  3. no!!! you will be just fine...
