Question:

Question about wisdom teeth and dry socket?

I am 15 years old and I got all four of my wisdom teeth removed on Monday. (Its been 5 days). My right cheek has been more swelled up then my left side, and it is also more painful.

I went into my oral surgeons office because i could not take the pain anymore.

He told me I had a dry socket. He "packed it" numbed it and most of the pain is away.- it was very painful

I am now taking vicodin, an antibiotic, rinsing with warm salt water, and using another mouth wash.

How long will my dry socket take to heal, and how cant i prevent any other bad things to happen to my socket?

  1. Dry socket means that the jaw bone is exposed to air. This is a common occurrence with extractions. You are doing the right things, just keep at it. It will go away in about 10 days.

  2. Complete healing typically goes smoothly and generally takes about 10 to 14 days.

    Avoid drinking through a straw

Avoid excessive mouth rinsing, it interferes with blood clotting

Keeping food away from impacting in this area.  Chew on the other side of your mouth and gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water after the first 24 hours.
