Question about writing an old friend in jail.....?

I just found out an old friend of mine is in jail. I know the jail hes in but I dont know his inmate number or anything. How would I write to him without knowing this???

Find the facilities web page on line and check for something like inmate services (thats what its called here) Sometime facilities list a number there for people to contact with just that type of question.  Failing that look up the listed number for the facility and ask who you need to talk to to get the info you need to post a letter.
