  1. Whether they fight or not, they should NOT be housed together.

An adult rat can kill a hamster within seconds.

    Hamsters are solitary animals.

    They have different dietary requirements.

Your rat should have a RAT companion. Your hamster should be allowed to be alone.

  2. NO!!! Pet rats are very territorial and even though you dont see them fighting doesnt mean that they wont. A pet rat will kill a mouse or hamster or gerbil. Do not house them together.

  3. No. There is quite a good chance the rat will attack the hamster, even if you don't think it will happen, and even if they get along for a while. The hamster may even instigate things, since they're very solitary. It's a very big risk. Keep them separated at all times.

P.S. Do you only have one rat? You really should consider getting another. They're social animals, and need to be kept in at least pairs.

  4. No, it's not okay.  For starters, it's very likely that either the hamster will get territorial and attack the rat, or that the rat could kill the hamster.  Rats are very social with other rats and people, but they are hunters when the opportunity presents itself. Birds, bugs, and smaller rodents can be prey to them.

On top of that, I can't think of any caging option that would be suitable for a hamster and a rat.  If it's rat sized, the hamster could slip out, and if it holds the hamster in, it's probably WAY too small for a rat.

Your rat needs a big cage and other rats as friends.  Anything else you try could result in a very bad situation. :(

  5. no pet rats kill hamsters and other animals. Trust me.

  6. no, it is not alright, this may sound silly but very soon your rat will kill your hamster...........i've had it happen....

  7. Separate them. Its not ok.

    Good Luck!
