Okay, my family is planning to take a vacation around July 20th on a voyager class or freedom class ship. What do you think is the best time to receive major discounts (Rooms ranging from $600-$1000)?

  1. if u have cruised with them b4 (or r an Anchor Club member) or are a senior, ask for a discount or upgrade. they will likely upgrade you

we were just on the Explorer of the Seas (our 7th RC cruise)

  2. Book early which unfortunately is too late now.  You are traveling at one of the most expensive times to cruise so expect to pay premium prices.  Booking last minute does not help if you need airfare since airfare prices will be high for last minute travel and even then they often still price the cabins higher than what they were if you booked a year or more in advance.  Check out bctravelcompany.com.  They often include onboard credit with all their cruises and this helps cut costs while you are on the ship because you can use the onboard credit to pay for gratuities, excursions, bar tab, pop and other expenses you will incur during your cruise.

  3. Get on the mailing list, there are super sale's all the time and they will email you when they have these sails so you can take advantage of them.

  4. First thing you need to do is book your cruise ASAP.  You get the best price by booking early, the earlier the better.   Then go to RC's web site and look at the specials.  The RC home page has a link in RED for "HOT DEALS" that will take you to pages where the discounted cruises are listed.  To get the best price you need to plan to go when the price is best rather than on a specific date.  Also, cruises leaving from the Miami and Ft Lauderdale tend to have the most and best discounts.

So go book as soon as possible.  You will need to pay a $250 deposit per person to hold your reservation and then the balance will be due about 60 days before your cruise.  If you are on the East coast you can save on your trip by driving to the port, rather than paying airfare for everyone.  I do that all of the time.  There's ample parking, cost about $20 a day right at the port.

  5. July is concidered peak season for cruises. You're going to find your best deals in Oct., after Thanksgiving, but before Christmas, Jan, Feb (except Valentines Day weekend), early March, late April and the majority of May.

    Good luck!
