Question concerning Fin. Aid and Work Study?

All this is for NEXT YEAR. I'm not late, I'm early.

1. My mother is a single parent and we haven't had contact with my father in some years. What should I do if the college requires the NON-Custodial Parent to also fill out information?

2. My mother also makes very little money so I would probably have an EFC of $0. My question is that to have a little money, I want to a job. If I get one through work study, does all of my money go toward tuition or just part of it. If it's only a portion, how much?

  1. Your work study money will go directly to you.  You can't put something on the application if you don't' have the data, so just skip the part about your father.

I wo uld also suggest, if your have a decent GPA, to start looking at scholarships, they will also help with the tuition.  Once you decide on a college, you can go directly to the college and ask them what do they have, but since you are still in high school, ask your counselor, if they can direct you to some scholorships.

  2. If you can't contact him then you can't really include him. Just send the college a formally written letter stating it and you should be fine.

With work-study you do get paid a paycheck. It's up to you to determine what you do with it. I think you are awarded the work-study money for just working and what you are paid is extra that you can put for tuition or use elsewhere.
