Question:

Question concerning high-speed internet through Comcast?

It looks like I am finally getting rid of dial-up as of next month and moving into an area where high speed internet is available. I will be gettin it through Comcast. My question is this:

I don't want to have to rent a cable modem through them for $5 a month. Is there a Comcast-ready, high-speed modem that I can purchase myself (maybe at a Best Buy or a Circuit City) that will work with what I'm getting?

Please advise........and thank you in advance.

  2. Comcast is who I have my hi-speed service through.   After two years, I'm very satisfied with them.   Their customer service is quick, efficient, and they rarely have downtime.   The only tradeoff to having cable internet is that when the cable TV goes out, so does the internet.    This has only happened a couple of times to me, unexpectedly (last night being one of them, ironically enough).   By "unexpectedly", I mean when there's not a storm in the area, etc.

The modem I linked below is the modem that I have.   If memory serves, it ran me about $60 from Amazon.    I've never had a problem with it.    It's smarter, financially, than renting from them for $5/month.

EDIT : Looks like it's $50 on Amazon.

  3. But if you stick with dial up then you have more time to waste....common primo! Don't you wanna waste more time?

We have a cable modem, and eh....not much to be excited about, perhaps we have a bad one.
