Question:

Question concerning periods & birth control?

So I had asked earlier about my first question; which was how I had finished my last pack (active) on saturday night at 9pm and decided to delay my period but did so on monday around 4pm (I hadn't gotten my period by then). I didn't get any blood until around thursday at 1 in the morning. It was a small bit, not enough to even make it to my panties, and it's been like this for the past two days.

The answer had been was that its a break through period and that it was to go away in a couple of days as long as I kept taking the pills.

I noticed today though that it got a bit heavier though (the colour changed to a deep red). Still, it never reaches the panties.

I need advice on what's going on; is it really just "spotting" and will go away or could it be that my epic plan failed me and my period is a coming?

  1. It's probably just spotting... which happens when we try to mess with mother nature... In order to have avoided this, you should have taken two doses on Monday: The "missed" (Sunday 9pm) dose on Monday at 4pm, and then the Monday 9pm dose (at 9pm)...

Your body is behaving like that because of the "missed" dose...

I 'think' you should be fine, and (hopefully) your plan doesn't backfire...

I would suggest added protection during this week...

  2. As you just found out, trying to skip your period does not always work.

You may just keep spotting like that, or it may be a full fledged period.

I tried this and not only did I get my period, I screwed up my cycle for months.

  3. It is indeed breakthrough bleeding, regardless of quantity or color.  If you're taking active pills and bleeding then it's just your body overriding the chemical barrier -- or "breaking through" (... hence the name) that barrier -- and bleeding a bit.

It may stop in a few days or it may carry on for a while, or may start and stop intermittently from now until the time you are ready to have your next period.

Not everyone can successfully bypass their period with the pill; this is just something to be anticipated and dealt with as it occurs.

EDIT:  DO NOT stop your pills now.  Just continue on as you are supposed to.  Stopping & starting your pills will only make matters all the worse!
