My boyfriend just went to Ft. Benning for basic training. As a girlfriend, just curious to see what you guys who have been through this already have to say...Did you have a girlfriend upon going into Basic? Did you keep your girlfriend while in Basic? Did writing bring the two of you closer or apart? Once you were stationed..did you stay with your girlfriend, talk about marriage or get married or engaged, or was the distance thing not working and break things off? They stay going through basic makes alot of the guys grow up. But does it make you want to have one woman to always be there waiting for you at home or did it make you relize you wanted to be on your own more and not have a steady relationship? Only asking, so I can see how others did this whole process that Im now doing =)

  1. I didn't had a girlfriend before army's basic training thank God... :P  But i went basic training and served a totally different army not the us army. I think this things are pretty the same everywhere. They say that army makes guys grow up. In my opinion this is a myth i went and i haven't grown up yet :P.

I saw a lot of soldiers break up their relationships during this time mainly because their gfs didn't unterstand that they cannot cheat them in a room full of men :P If your bf loves you he will continue to love you after the Basic time flows quickly. AND of course don't cheat on him. :P

As said i didn't go to us army but i didn't see the opinion of any us soldier until they post here is mine

  2. I dated a guy while he was in basic and we made it through just fine. We also made it through AIT... but when he got his first duty station overseas we decided to end it.

  3. What about women in the Army?

    :)

As long as you continue to show your support, he'll be fine. But I'm gonna tell you this journey ain't gonna be easy!

Just keep in mind that he's doing a brave thing for you and him. And don't cheat on him!

  4. My now fiance is in afghanistan, and well... he joined the army and went to basic(fort benning too) after we were only together like 3-4 months. He said my letters during basic were the only thing that kept him going. Write every day to him. My man came home from basic/AIT and he was a better man. I love who he is now, so much more mature. I would probably not be with him if he was the way he used to be. Then my man went to fort campbell, kentucky and i stayed in Texas. Now hes in afghanistan and the month he comes home were getting married. If you love the man, DO IT. I dont regret anything... dont worry about "will he love me when he comes back" cause he will. And that long waiting you're doing right now is all worth it when u see him for the first time. You fall in love all over again. Staying with my man was the best decision of my life, and i dont regret any of it.

  5. I am an army wife, have been for 5 years and 2 tours overseas.

I write my husband everyday! I write letters and e-mails. Yes, it brings us closer. I have not seen him since January, but he knows everything going on in my life. I tell him about all sorts of silly stuff,  I even tell him where I move stuff in our house so he doesn't come home and feel lost or like a stranger.

Being an Army wife is hard, so I assume so is a an army g/f. You are alone a lot and worry a ton. Be strong, you can do it. Find something to occupy your time, like answering questions. He will be home soon. The distance is only a problem if you let it be, you can still be close even from half way across the world. Just keep him updated, and write to him as if he were right there talking.

She is right, don't cheat on him. We have too many cheaters giving us a bad name already.
