I just got out (again) of a relationship with a man that I know is a sociopath (I work for a psychiatrist and we talked about his type) and I want to keep busy- I attend church close to where I live and want to be more involved to keep my mind off this guy who I know is not good for me- (I really loved him) but he lies and has someone else in his life and I found out always HAS had her in his life although he denies that since he's been with me anything went on or is going on now-- I am a single parent and really want to do something GOOD to occupy my limited evening time-- I get shy at things like I was thinking about Bible Study Wed nights- but I am NOT one to speak UP-- and maybe if I felt I "understood" the bible better than the version I have --that would help some- and where do you think I can get a free bible with the more understandable version-- is King James the OLD version? Thanks for ANY advice-- I guess also this guy I dated for the last 3 years with EXTREME doubts will just fade away- he's all I've known for this long.

  1. You might want to ask yourself WHAT it is about him that you love?

It's all in your mind.  Sounds like you need to examine what you are really thinking when you say you love him.  You've described him as a sociopath, a cheater, a liar.  What's to love about that?

You may love him as a human being, but certainly this is not the kind of "love" and treatment that you want to draw to yourself for a partner.

  2. Rather than just "shoot from the hip," I want to think this through and pray first. I will edit later, or email you. You've written about a lot of things.

  3. Perhaps if you inserted ample time for science and facts into your daily routine you would gain a clearer prospective of what is going on around you. What do I mean? Psychiatry is not a science. Religion is the furthest thing from science. Science seeks facts to determine truth. You seek truth in your life so simply make some time for it.

  4. A Bible study may do the trick but you might prefer a "home group" where there is Bible study plus other activities like worship, prayer, getting to know one another and caring for one another. These things often don't happen in a strict Bible study.

Ask your home group if someone has an extra Bible. Many Americans do, I have four English Bibles at hand and three in another language.

Or perhaps, your church has one you can have. I agree that the King James version is old and hard to understand. Still, it was the best translation in its day, 400 years ago!

Good luck and stay away from the creep! Maybe God will change him, but then again....

  5. wrtie to:

    Bibles for America

    PO Box 17537

    Irvine CA 92623-0116

    or call 1-888-551-0102

for a free bible easy to understand with footnotes.

for who seek the Lord shall find Him.

  6. have u given your life to the lord?  alot of the answers that u will get on YA are not going to be nice.  The bible is a learning process. when i first got saved i didn't know much at all now i have been saved a year and know more.  My pastor is still learning we all are.  bible study is great i just love it.  try the NIV or get a parell bible NIV and KJV. stay encouraged.  and read psalms 37 and john chapter 3.  and u are more than welcome to email me anytime.  i send out daily scriptures everyday. it seems it would be best to stay away from this man.

  7. Why do you love him if he cheats and lies?  I hear infatuation here. My advice, don't make a second mistake.  God will provide.

Try visit this website and find out which version is more comfortable for you at http://www.biblegateway.com or download free bibles at http://www.e-sword.net before getting one in hardcopy.

P.S.  If you think loving him is helping him, think again, don't love him for the wrong reason(s).

  8. First of all get your mind off guys,

God will find you a mate, HE does not need your help to find one,

the KJV Bible is the Only Bible to read, all the other ones out there have been tampered with and changed words, taken out words,

You need to get in KJV Bible Believing Church where the Pastor encourages women to dress modest and to be quiet, get involved in a ministry,ie, Juvenile Detention, Prison, Nursing Home, visit the elderly, meals of wheels, if you get around Christians trying to do something for GOD, GOD will find the perfect mate for you,

or if you continue to try to find your own mate, the devil has a long list just waiting to say I love you.

    1 Thessalonians 4:11   And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

Theses types of Churches are getting harder and harder to find in this Laodecian Church Age that we live in, but if you want GOD's blessing in your life, this is what it is going to take.

  9. I suggest you purchase the New Living Translation of the Bible. It flows really nice and you will not want to put it down. You can buy a very inexpensive one at any christian book store -- easily under ten dollars.

If you can invest in the New Believers Bible (New Living Translation) I know you will not regret it.

And yes, while the King James is known for its poetic beauty, sometimes the archaic language makes it difficult to understand.

The greatest endeavor you can engage your mind in is the pursuit of the knowledge of God -- you do this by learning about God as he has revealed himself in the Scriptures.

I wish you the best. God bless you!

  10. I know what a sociopath is -- I am a counselor. Good for you for recognizing that he is unhealthy and that staying with him would mean you are too.

Going to bible study is so that you can learn about the bible -- so don't worry that you feel you don't know enough yet.  Everyone is at a different point in their faith journey.  This is just where you are right now.  So, go!  You don't even have to say anything about the Bible --just be as sociable as you can.

You can read several different versions of the bible at www.biblegateway.com  I recommend "The Message" translation -- it is very enjoyable to read and easy to understand.  But at least this way you can try reading different translations before you buy one.

  11. Here is a great resource for you.

Pastor Bob Coy of Calvary Chapel of Fort Lauderdale is probably the easiest pastor to listen to and learn the bible from.

He has an uncanny ability to speak directly to you no matter what situation you are in.

He teaches the bible for life application and does a great job of answering the tough questions that we all have.

Chances are that you don't live in Fort Lauderdale so here is his web site:

    http://www.calvaryftl.org/AWMedia/index....

You can listen to any of his messages from the Active Word website and can even search by topic.

    Let the healing begin.

    God Bless
