  1. they like millet and love swings and toys they can chew on

  2. This is where I buy most of the toys for mine, they have some really cute stuff.

  3. cockatiels like strings and knots. I have a ball in the cage that has knots coming off of it, and whenever my bird wants to come out, but can't it always goes to the toy and starts trying to get the knots out. It is a good stress reliever.

cockatiels, usually like fresh millet spray which you can buy at the store (though the bird i have know doesn't care for them much) and they like sunflower seeds, and you can also buy little seed balls or seeds that are put together in a perch shape, and my cockatiels used to spend all day eating and sitting on it....

  4. It varies quit a bit from bird to bird on what toys they like.  Mine loved his bell but you have to be careful that the clapper is firmly attached so the bird can't get it out.    Otherwise just try a variety of properly sized toys and see what they like.

As far as favorite treats mine loved honey sticks (mixture of honey and bird seed sold in petstores) and spray millet

  5. They love millet, but be careful as it gets EVERYWHERE.  also, there are TONS of bird toys in any pet shop.  Be sure to get lots of different kinds - with ropes, blocks, bells, etc... and don't put all of them in the cage at once.. you want to change them and move them around every week or so.

I had a hard time training my cockatiel.  All you have to do is be patient and work on it a few hours a day, but split it into little 15 minute increments.  First you need to get them out of the cage and get their wings clipped.  That shows them who's boss.  Also, some cockatiels are extremely territorial, so you may be able to take an extra perch, rub it on their belly low enough to make them step onto it.  make sure you're holding it parallel to the perch they're already sitting on.. if they feel like you're going to push them off that perch, they'll naturally step up onto it.  When they do say "step up", and they'll learn that command.

Once they're out of the cage (and you want to handle one at a time.  Do the same thing you did with the perch, but with your finger.  NEVER put your hand over the bird like you're going to grab it.  Cockatiels are prey to many bigger birds in the wild and your hand looks an awful lot like a hawk claw to them.

Once you're able to get then to stand on your fingers, hold them close to your body.  do not let them get on your shoulder.  Always keep yourself higher than them.  This is a show of dominance and YOU are in charge, not them.  This is VERY important.  If they bite you, do not make a sound or pull away, simply move your hand where they can't get it.  If you move or make a sound, they'll learn that they're getting a reaction from you and they'll feel like they can control you..

dominance and patience are the important key factors in training any bird.
