Was Tonks a 7th year when Harry was a 1st year?

Yep. I'm pretty sure she was.

Harry was born in 1980, Tonks in 1973. So she's 7 years older than Harry. That means she was in her 7th year when Harry was in his first. If the birthdays work out right (because it depends on where they fell with Hogwarts deadlines), she would have been either in her 7th year at Hogwarts during Harry's first, or just barely graduated from Hogwarts.

She was in Charlie Weasley's year, I'm pretty sure-- that would make her a seventh year the year BEFORE Harry was a first year.

...At least, that's how the math worked out in my fanfiction, ha.

Yeah it is a HUGE possibility. I think she was 24 when she died and he was 17 in the 7th book. So that is a 7 year difference. So yeah, it is likely.

No, her 7th year was the year BEFORE Harry was a first year. So, she was 17/18 when Harry was 10, and 18/19 when Harry was 11. They;re roughly 7 or eight years apart in age. Hope that helps!
