  1. With careful menu planning, vegetarians can meet their nutritional needs using the Vegetarian Food Guide Pyramid.

A balanced vegetarian diet may reduce the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, digestive problems, some cancers, kidney disease, kidney stones, and gallstones. It is important to know that a well-balanced vegetarian diet can also provide adequate protein.

People become vegetarians for a number of reasons: Religious, Ethical, and Food-Safety. Several religions prohibit or restrict the consumption of animal flesh; some people feel it is morally and ethically wrong to consume animals, because they view the practices in the modern animal industries as inhumane; there is also a great deal of concern about meat-handling practices, as contaminated meat is allowed into our food supply (example: Mad Cow Disease); and others practice vegetarianism because of its health benefits. Research over seven years has consistently shown that a varied and balanced vegetarian diet can reduce the risk of many chronic diseases.

  2. No, you will not necessarily lose weight. It depends upons what you eat and how many calories. If you become a junk food vegetarian, eating oreos, ice cream, coke, potato chips, etc., then you will not lose weight. Vegetarianism can be a healthy lifestyle if you eat healthy and it is possible to lose weight, but more likely if you exercise. Try signing up for Vegetarian Times magazine or reading books on vegetarianism by Gary and Steve Noll.

  3. I eat mostly veg.,a little poultry and fish.No red meat.I feel better. Some of the stuff they put in red meat is nasty.

  4. You probably won't lose weight, unless you cut back on junk food. Becoming more "down-to-earth" is a choice, not something dictated by one's diet. Veg*nism is not Weight Watchers. Wanna lose weight? Lose the snacks and hit the gym. 2 to 3 weeks of simply not eating meat (and not refining your diet in any other way) will probably not yield any results.

  5. When you become a vegetarian, you need to be very careful about adding legumes and nuts to your diet.  You may also need to add vitamins, based on the variety in the diet you choose to eat.  You may lose weight but not necessarily, depending on how healthy your choices are.

  6. lowered cholesterol and blood pressure, reduced risk of developing diabetes, heart attack, cancer, heart disease, etc. A clear (er) conscience. Womens cycles usually improve. Fewer toxins. Better for your arteries, liver, kidneys, and heart!

Becoming a vegetarian for health reasons can open your eyes to a healthier way of eating, but becoming vegetarian doesn't guarantee weight loss in itself. If a vegetarian sits in front of the tv chowing down on pizzas, ice cream, and cake, they'll probably be heavier than your everyday omnivore.

I don't think being a vegetarian means you'll act more down to earth, but I think it encourages you to think about the lives of animals and the food on your plate.

Going veggie is empowering. It means saving the lives of 100 animals!!! it's also much better for the ozone layer and our air. Plant sources of calcium and protein are better absorbed by our bodies than animal ones. It's more economical and efficient to eat grains or veggies than eat the animals that ate the grains or veggies.

I suggest that you really think twice about dairy products (depending on the company and what's inside--also milk isn't good for you at all). It contains pus and usually hormones and antibiotics. Male calves are sent from dairy farms to veal farms. Baby roosters are dumped into trash cans to suffocate to death. Chickens are often confined into tiny spaces and debeaked.

If it's not a lifestyle for you now, you can always do meat free Mondays or GRADUALLY go veggie. It's much easier to eliminate one animal at a time, but if you're creative and determined (which I believe that you are) you should have no problem going cold turkey.I highly recommend that you watch the movie 'Earthlings'.

Good sources of calcium: kale, beans, carob, supplements

Good sources of B12: bee pollen, seaweed (debatable), supplements

Think outside the box! Our government plays stupid and really wants our money. Give vegetarianism a try. It's not very difficult. Ultimately the choice is yours. E-mail me if you have any questions!

    Maybe, maybe, maybe.

The only true reason to become vegetarian and stay that way is to avoid contributing to any of this.

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12.

All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended.

It may help you if you see proof that vegan people have the same potential as anyone else.

  8. You shouldn't become a vegatarian just because of the 'benifits', my god.

  9. There are 3 major benefits to being vegetarian or vegan:

    1. You reduce the harm you do to animals. You're not paying farmers to raise and slaughter cows, pigs, chickens and so on on your behalf. Factory farming involves subjecting animals to pain and deprivation, and slaughtering them in an often painful and terrifying process. Abusive practices in the industry are well documented and rarely prosecuted.

    2. You reduce your negative environmental impact. Livestock agriculture is incredibly damaging and wasteful, a plant-based diet takes a fraction of the energy, land, and water as producing meat does. Overfishing is leading to the collapse of fish species in both the Atlantic and Pacific, which in turn affects other species like sharks, dolphins and whales. This is supported by scientific study:

    3. It's healthier. The Standard American Diet which is high in meat leads to cancer, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. Well-balanced vegetarian diets have been shown to decrease your chances of developing numerous diseases, as well as helping maintain a healthy body weight.

  10. You shouldn't become a vegetarian to 'see results'. Those are the wrong reasons and you won't be happy with your choice.

But if you want to know the truth, I sleep better, have far less stomach aches, feel lighter and I don't get light headed anymore. (I was having all of these problems as an omnivore.) I don't know if i lost any weight because I haven't been on a scale. I've been a vegetarian for four weeks. and I don't know when I started noticing these things.

  11. I love animals,so I'm a vegetarian and don't want to hurt any creature due to me.....I feel very guilty if something wrong is done by me.......
