Question:

Question for a genuine psychic... worried about my husband smoking...?

My husband is 37, hasn't' been able to stop smoking.... starts and stops for periods of times...

Like most concerned people who hav loved ones who smoke, I am terrified he is going to die young of a smoking-related illness 10, 20 years... basically under retirement age...

reason I'm asking is at one point we told eachother something, and I'm not willing to continue/w/it if it is a self-inflicted illness, but I don't know if it will be an issue or not....

  1. There are no such things as genuine psychics.

The best thing you can do is to get him to talk to a doctor, who can scare the bejeesuz out of him simply by telling him the medical facts about smoking related diseases and rates of morbidity.  Being scared silly by someone with expert knowledge can have a far more powerful effect than any amount of friendly persuasion.

  2. This question sounds more about you than your husband..under retirement age?...a person will not quit smoking until he is ready to do so....and it sounds like an issue already, whatever the ultimatum was...take care...

  3. Ultimatums seldom work because they are almost always nothing more than empty threats. If your not willing to walk out until he stops smoking I doubt your willing to walk out after he becomes ill but that's just my opinion.

There are several ways to quit smoking (hypnosis, medication, gums, patches, etc.). However, the only way to quit is to want to it is not enough to know that you should, know that others want you to, or even that you will die if you don't quit (I have seen lung cancer patients smoking).

Unless, you want to quit you will not take action and certainly not stick to a plan.

Obviously smoking causes cancer and other health related illnesses (I'm certain the debunkers on here will argue that the smoking-cancer link has never been conclusively demonstrated) according to all available evidence. However, there are people that never smoke that have breathing and lung problems and get cancer of various types. There are people that smoke for years and never suffer from any related health problems.

I believe that nicotine addiction should be covered under health insurance (it is not) and inpatient treatments should be available for it just like any other substance abuse treatment. Alas, but to dream.

  4. I agree with the others...no reason to consult a psychic. If he smokes at 37, he's likely already smoked for years. Although he may already have undiagnosed smoking-related illnesses, it's never too late to quit.

  5. Ive got some very bad news for you.

No psychic will be able to tell you about your future.

Psychics generally use a technique called cold-reading, in which they create the illusion that they are devining information from some other source (a ghost, a spirit, a god, a vision or whatever).

No psychics really can tell the future however, and if you look at any psychics track records of predictions, you will find it as good or worse than anyone making intelligent guesses about the future.

Anyone I have known who wants to quit smoking just walks away from cigarettes. People who can't stop quitting are usually just pretending they want to quit, because this relieves the pressure from the people around them telling them they need to quit.

In the end, your husband enjoys smoking, and isnt ready to give it up.

You see, Addiction is a fictitious concept. There is not such thing as an addiction. Some people made it up in the 30s to get people to give up alcohol, and now it has been applied to everything from working to marijuana. However, the truth is, if someone likes doing something they will continue to do it.

Also, many people become addicted because they believe they are addicted to a substance. If they are very prone to suggestion, they can become convinced that they have to have something. These people tend to lean to the side of hypochondria also.

If you husband tends to be hypochondia prone, then he might fall into this category.

    Good luck.

  6. All kidding aside.  It's not the cigarettes that's going to get him. There is something much more important for you to worry about now, that your not able to see.  Take a step back and look at yourself.

  7. You have two contacts and they are both medium/psychics. ???

  8. Most people can't stop smoking. Yes it is self inflicted, but you have to understand the addiction.

If he is visibly sick and does not want to seek medical attention then your concern is natural.

Even if he isn't visibly sick and just has a symtom such as a dry cough or just a rough and gravely voice then your concern is correct.

Most people have a relative that smoked for years and are still going at an advanced age, so you have to wonder if that is why they won't stop. Excuses will often deter quitting.

It all depends on how much you can tolerate the addiction or the person, seems you have already made the decision.

  9. Ask your doctor. There are new ways to quit without the withdrawal symptoms. When I quit for the last time; I went cold turkey. I had to get mad at the cigarettes enough to bust up nearly a whole pack. I think it's important, at least to me, to hate them enough to destroy them, rather than myself. It's now been around 31/2 years since I quit. Cigarettes don't have any love for us either. There's always hypnosis too.

  10. Oregon has a assisted suicide law. The Hemlock Society can help---http://www.compassionandchoices.org/heml...

And you should not let him smoke around you or others.  Tobacco is an evil spirit, I have seen a tobacco spirit and know that you are fighting more than just a bad habit.

When someone is really sick and suffering it is easy to let them go.

  11. I gotta laugh at all the psychic and spirit doubters around these parts. If only they knew how real this stuff is.

I do agree though that you don't need a psychic to tell you whether or not he's still smoking. You'd be able to smell it on his clothing, especially if smoke isn't in your home anymore. If you aren't used to cigarette smoke, you can smell it a mile away. I used to smoke like a chimney, but quit like 3 years ago, and I can smell on it people who smoke, even if I'm in a public place.

  12. I am having problem understanding what your question is and why it is directed at a psychic unless it takes a psychic to know your question.

But as far as the smoking issue you do not have to be psychic to know that if he does not stop and if it does not kill him it will cause health problems in the future.

Smoking is not easy to quit and it takes a couple of years of not smoking before the pain of the withdrawals cease completely.

If he quits it will be the single most hardest thing he has ever done I know I quit for 15 year, started back for a year or two and quit again in 1990 the second time I almost did not make it. Hope he can gather up the strength to quit for both of yours sake.
