Why do we have to learn about history and do reports on it? Why? Some guy or girl did something important and now we have to learn about them e they did something big? If they hadn't done it, someone would've done it. Why do we even learn this stuff? It's useless.

  1. Your brain is a muscle, and muscles only work when exercised.    We learn from history...we learn not to repeat mistakes (if we are smart, that is).  What is wrong with knowing just for the sake of the knowledge?  Quit whining about school.

  2. Are you kidding me?!? If you don't know about the past how are you ever going to prepare for the future? We learn from our mistakes...the gas cap in the 70's reflects how we are handling the oil crisis now. If our current leaders did not understand their own history we would continue to make mistakes...Hence the saying "don't let history repeat itself". To understand who we are today we need to have a true understanding of where we came from and where our ideas originated from. The United States runs a democracry, we learned that a democracy works by looking at ancient Greece and ancient Rome, the founding fathers said hey that worked for them why not us. If our founding fathers did not have a l**k of history they would have been ignorant and tried to develop something from scratch (why re-invent the wheel). The United States has a government system that has not broken down in over 200 years. Many countries use the Constitution of the United States to develop their own Constitutions. I know that it seems meaningless to learn about one person in history...what is the significances about one guy crossing a bridge versus another...it all deals with who is there to record that history...the significance of history is the importance that people put on it. We celebrate black history month every February...don't you think you should know why? We celebrate 4th of July every July...Don't you think you should know why we celebrate the 4th of July (assuming you are from America). To be ignorant of your past is only putting blinders on you for your future.

    EDIT

That is why YOU NEED HISTORY!! Columbus did not "find" America! America was already here...He landed in the Bahamas for goodness sake. Yes someone would have came behind him and claimed the land as his..however, the point that your ignorance is missing is that a point in history is only claimed signficant if someone makes it signficant. There is evidence that the Vikings were fishing off northern coast years before Columbus came...however, no one made it a point to stop and record that. What kind of great story would that make? Columbus made it a story...our history books have made it a false story. We are not looking at the history of ancient artifacts...we are looking at the government system that the Greeks and Romans used. If we did not use them as an example we would have wasted time and energy trying to re-invent the wheel. You may not care what some person did a thousand years ago, however, what that person did a thousand years ago impacts the life that you are living today. If you know what mistakes that person (or group of people) made, you will be that much better. If you don't understand why we need to know history, and you are ignorant with the belief that we don't need to know history...then good luck in life...you wont go very far because you will be stuck in a rat wheel because you will not look at the past to help you with the future.

  3. we have to learn to open our minds and see how history repeats  as time goes by ... it's always the same

poor people will be poor people

and rich people will be rich people

there is no chance to success in this world

we have to study history in order to avoid that history repeats again but unfortunately it's impossible

  4. because  it will give you greater knowledge

    and wisdom
