Hi I'm doing a biography on Oscar De La Hoya(the boxer) and I just wanted to ask, did he face any type of discrimination because of his race, culture, or religion? How did he pave the way for others? How did he contribute to American society? Yeah, thanks!

  1. I think alot had to do with Tito. He had Tito in the bag but gave the fight away. I herd because of his marriage. I like Oscar, no matter what he done in his personal life. I think he's one of the best mexican boxer but not brawler. True fans stay true, not when you get a lost or they do some you dont agree with.

  2. My old trainer told me that a lot of hardcore Mexican boxing fans don't respect Oscar. The reason is because he doesn't have the traditional Mexican warrior style like Julio Cesar Chavez or Erick Morales and when he beat Cesar Chavez Mexican fans seen that as disrespect because he was trying embarrassing a Mexican Icon. It was like the Mexican version of Larry Holmes beating on Muhammad Ali. To add fire to the fuel when he lost to Tito Trinidad it was obviously because he sent the last few rounds running and there was no way a True Mexican Warrior would have finished a fight like that. Even Fernando Vargas called him a sell out during the pre fight hype to their match.

  3. I don't know of any discrimination that he faced while growing up, but I do know that he grew up in the tough streets of Los Angeles.  I watched a show on HBO, and he said that he never got into a fight outside of the ring because he was always able to work things out using his mind rather his fists- that shows you that he is a cut above most other fighters.  He stated that he would never fight unless he was going to get paid to do it.  He paved the way for others because everywhere you look there are people that try to be like him.  He started his own promotional company, Golden Boy Promotions and it has grown to be one of the top promotional companies in all of boxing.  Next thing you know, every fighter is trying to start their own company, but none of them have worked as well as his did.  He also helps a lot of fighters who can't get big fights by signing them because he is fighter as well as a promoter, so he knows how corrupt the business can get.  He knows what its like to be a fighter because he is one, and he knows what its like to be a promoter because he is an entrepreneur.  He contributed to American society by making boxing more popular.  After Sugar Ray Leonard's career ended, we were looking for the next big thing and we found it- Mike Tyson.  And after Tyson's career fizzled out we were looking for the next big thing, and we found it- Oscar De La Hoya.  He has earned more in pay-per view revenue than any other fighter in history including Tyson and Holyfield.  He just broke the record last year for most pay-per view buys with his fight against Floyd Mayweather, Jr., so that shows you how popular he still is.  He is an entrepreneur and a star of the sport that helped to keep boxing at its best- he deserves credit for that whether you like him or dislike him.

  4. You'll need to dedicate a chapter to how he likes to dress up in fish net stockings and take pictures. It's kind of g*y looking, but whatever he likes to do is just fine I suppose.

  5. his amatuer and professional career speaks for itself !

  6. all I know is that he is g*y

  7. Well in the boxing world race didn't really matter people just saw him as a good boxer with skill because he won the Gold in 92'

Also the reason why mexcians dont like him is because yea he doesn't fight like a warrior, he fights more smart which can be boring

and that he was not born in mexico and acted more like a movie star than a boxer. So back in the late 90's all the mexicans said he wasnt a real mexican. Through his wohle career hes tried to prove his worth for his race. Never really happend tho
