Question:

Question for anyone training to be Police Officers?

My boyfriend always wanted to enroll into the police force but always lacked confidence until now, and decided he should just go for it. The only thing holding him back is worries about the financial implications of leaving his current full-time job to do the 2 year training programme.

Do trainee officers get financial support of any kind (like student nurses?). We live in Scotland so the training would be the strathclyde police.

Serious answers only please.

  1. wow 2 yr academy huh??...you can find out if it will be paid or not by gathering the information from the dept.....

  2. I would speak to your local Police and ask them but I would imagine your boyfriend will get paid whilst he trains, I did.

When I joined the Police (in England) I got paid from the day I started training.  This was however at the starting rate of pay so it was a significant drop in wages from what I was used to.  Having said that, this depends on how much you got paid in your previous job.  Some colleagues of mine found a significant increase in the wage they got when they joined.

  3. You get paid as you train, the 2 years is your probationary period.
