it says in order to train to be a chaplain you have to have college experience, but I'm wondering can you begin as a chaplain assistant then use that training and experience to enter the chaplain corps.

  1. CH's are the only commissioned officers required to have a MASTER's, not BACHELOR's degree --- they are also required to be endorsed by the faith they practice, and what assistants do is vastly different than what actual CH's do.

  2. Chaplains are commissioned officers and therefore need at least a BS or whatever.  You can work your way up through the ranks but you will have to have the college experience (as you call it) in order to receive a commission even as a chaplain.  There are after all first and foremost officers of the Army.  Good luck to you.

  3. no.. in order to be a Chaplain you must be ordained( with the Masters in Divinity at minimum) and get permission from your  Hierarchy to pursue a commission.

  4. No.

  5. Nope. Gotta have the degree.

It is POSSIBLE to be a chaplain's assistant, then go to school part time to get a degree; but there are NO guarantees of time off for classes, when you need them.
