  1. There were quite a few kids in my school as I was growing up who had learning disabilities, the most common one was dyslexia/dysgraphia.  Almost all of them hated being so far behind the other kids in their classes, they hated having to read out loud or write things on the board, because they thought it made them look stupid.

There was one kid, though, who actually liked having it, because he got some specialized and individualized attention when it came to doing assignments and learning the book material that no one else got.  He actually felt that having dyslexia gave him a chance to learn more in school because he wasn't just another face in the crowd.

There are plenty of different "treatments" for dyslexia that have mixed results, but can help quite a few people cope with their L.D. very well.  So many dyslexics now can live a fairly normal life with only minimal hindrance on their cognitive abilities.
