do you need to know another language besides english to fly internationally on united airlines, or any other american airline that flys internationally?

  1. Nunciata is right, and with the current gas crisis, you're not going to see much in the way of Major airline hiring, with the exception of Delta- though that's still a rumor.

    Where you might want to look is at the charter companies.  You would have a better chance of seeing international flights there.

    US carriers do not require a second language, but it can be a benefit to you in getting hired, and getting you better flights once you are hired.

No, it is not an automatic requirement.  However, if you expect to get hired on with United or another major US carrier, you will not be flying international flights right away, UNLESS you have a language (like French, Japanese, Italian)  With an airline like American Airlines, their international flight attendants are completely seperate to their domestic flight attendants.  It takes a lot of seniority to get into an international base.  With United their domestic and international operations are integrated, but the seniors still travel most of the international routes.  You might be able to obtain an international trip off of reserve (being on call).  Now is a rough time for getting hired on as a flight attendant, please be warned.
