Question for ladies who chart their BBT?

Does it really mess up your temperature if you get up at different times every day, or if you get up in the night?

I want to start charting, but I have a toddler and I sometimes have to get up in the night for him, or sometimes he wakes up early and I get up 1.5 hours earlier than I usually would.

And what if you have to get up in the night/ early morning to go to the toilet?? Does that affect it?

I know that these things CAN cause a change in temp, but in your experience, how much difference does different waking and rising times make?

Thanks

  1. The time of day is important, so I agree that a Fertility Monitor might suit you better. The one by ClearBlue is great because all you do is press the button within a 6-hour window each day, so if you get up early or late it won't mess up the data. Then for about 5 days each month you do a test stick with first morning urine, but you can do that in a cup and save it for late if you're having a busy toddler morning. Finally, the machine remembers all your data from month to month, and in lab tests it gets 100% of detecting ovulation. Because it's a 'closed/dry' system, there's nothing icky about getting it from eBay; you simply use one blank stick to reset the system. Maybe have a look into that.

  2. In your type of situation maybe charting isn't for you. Maybe you should get an Ovulation kit or a fertility monitor. You can also check you cervical mucus to see if it has an egg white quality, this is usually your most fertile time.

I to was trying to chart my BBT but because I work nights and I work 2 jobs it was very difficult to get a constant reading.

Good luck and lots of baby dust
