Between the two, do people more often assume you are a liberal (in the modern North American sense) or a conservative (in the modern North American Sense)? Thanks

  1. I'm probably more often considered a conservative.

I agree more with the Libertarians than with the Democrats or republicans.

I do not support the libertarian position on allowing g*y marriage and on legalizing drugs.   I support their opposition to deficit spending and avoiding useless wars.

  2. When I talk about my own decisions, and beliefs, they think I am conservative. when I talk about whether there should be laws to force everyone else to live by the same, they think I am liberal.

  3. conservative - but that's because I'm in finance and I tend to address economic issues; also because I'm skeptical of man-made global warming people think I'm a conservative or Republican.    Some liberals are also skeptics so this is kind of silly.   When the topic is g*y marriage some people think I'm a liberal.

  4. I'm a dues paying Libertarian, and most of my friends here in town are pretty conservative.  That's just demographics, a lot of my friends in other parts of the country are liberal.  They all know where I stand, and consequently they don't confuse me with either.  When I speak with people I don't know, however, they most often assume that I'm whatever they're NOT.  If I'm speaking with a conservative they'll focus on areas where we disagree, such as drug legislation, g*y marriage, and foreign policy.  They'll assume that I'm liberal.  If I speak with a liberal, however, they'll focus on my disdain for welfare, progressive taxation, and gun control.  To them I'm just an evil conservative.  Maybe it's because I'm more likely to speak up with someone I don't know to tell them why they're wrong rather than just agree with them.  Or maybe when I'm the one speaking first they'll wait until they disagree then tell me that I'm wrong.  But I've seen a pretty even 50/50 split.  I'm whatever they're not, no matter what they are.

  5. Some folks on Y!A have referred to me as a liberal. I chuck that up to ignorance and lack of perspective.

There is nothing "liberal" about Anarcho-syndicalism (which is how I identify myself, i.e. as an Anarcho-Synicalist). But, most conservatives (in the modern North-American sense) have no frame of reference to understand the ideas I express so they retreat to what they think they know and understand.
