whats a human chain? i know what it's purpose is but can someone explain why you use it to save drowning people verses someone just going and saving them and pics would be nice. a kid in my grade drowned today and they were saying how they did a human chain and also how about where you can't stand how do you join the chain?

A human chain is when people lock arms and walk the bottom of the beach  to find someone who has drowned.  Staying close to your partner ensures there are no holes in the chain and the person is not missed.  This isn't used for saving a victim just finding one.  The people who make up the chain are usually trained individuals.
