I'm a fairly new revert to Islam and i have some confusion about what is and isn't exceptable for dress. Is it a requirement to wear a jilbab or abaya when going out? I've been told by other sisters here in the us it is however when i traveled to an islamic country there were many sisters wearing things like jeans with a long shirt (loose fitted) with a hijab.. is this exceptable?

  1. Great question sister!

I just like to say that the sisters who chooose to wear jilbab and abaya are the true Islamic sisters who have the strongest fear for Allah, swt. Your eman (belief) is shown through how you choose to cover as your dress is a sacriface for Allah, swt. Don't let the shady girls who wear the half way decent dress convince you. The real Islamic uniform for the true straight path sisters is the abaya and jilbab with proper hijab. Some people have loose ideas about what is acceptable in alislam, but it is up to you to decide how conservative or moderate that you wish to be. I hope you find the straight path sister and much love for our true sisters out there and their sacrifaces shall be rewarded someday in sha allah. salam sister. Best wishes.

  2. Wellcome to great religon Islam

Yes my dear if you ready and want to wera it then its great idae then go for hurry to take your abayya  and wear it when you going out

and wering full dress and lose fitted its perfectilly okk

  3. Its not a complicated dress code. All is needed is a hijab that covers all the hair and covers your chest, loose fitted clothes, like a long top over jeans or abaya.

  4. well all you have to do is wear long loose clothing and wear a hijab

i really dont know what a jilbab is

but an abaya is not compulsory...if u think u r ready..go for it!

yes it is acceptable! once the clothing is not tight

  5. modesty is the only thing required

  6. First, welcome to islam. = )

you just have to dress modestly, it doesn't necessarily have to be am abaya. whatever your comfortable with, as long as it's modest.

  7. Modesty is what you understand and interpret it as being. For instance I cover my whole body except for my hands face and feet. And I believe that Allah is fully pleased with me, but if I were to visit one of those strict culturally based traditional eastern countries I would get severely beaten for exposing my flesh. Allah doesn't go into detail about the modest way of dress, he leaves it up to you to use your common sense and decide what you think is acceptable or appropriate. I think long jeans and a long shirt with the veil is just fine but it's not my type of style to wear outside. I prefer long flowing dresses because they look more feminine and it's like a curtain to a woman's body which hides the womanly shape.

    Asa lamu alaykum :)
