Question for non-Yankees fans: is it typical for fans to boo rivals' players at All-Star games?....?

...Or is this a new low for the hatred in this rivalry? The Yahoo report on the All-Star game said the New York fans booed at all the Red Sox when they were introduced and booed at them during the game. I can see why they were angry at Papelbon dissing Rivera, but booing every member of a team just because they're bitter rivals is incredibly low class in my book.

Has this happened at other All-Star games? Do Chicago fans boo players from St. Louis or the other Chicago team, or have Dodgers fans booed at Giants, or vice versa? I'm looking for facts, not a justification for fans' boorish behavior or rants about how some player or team deserves ridicule.

I am a Yankees fan, so I guess I'm not supposed to answer this, but I agree the fans went over the top, booing all Sox players (who were on their team that night), and supposedly threatening Papelbon's wife. It was a really low class thing to do, and it embarrassed me as a Yankee fan. It's morons like that that give classy Yankee fans a bad name.

EDIT: Becky,the reason you don't see Yanks fans mentioning this every 5 minutes is because most of us are embarrassed by it.

Lily - If I remember correctly, there were a FEW boos directed at the Yankees at Fenway, but no one's wife was threatened.

It happens but all the fans in the New York Stadium were not NY fans.  It was an all star game.  Boston fans booed Yankees at Fenway Park in the all star game & Giant fans booed when Dodger players were introduce & Philadelphia fans booed Santa Claus

It happens I live in San Francisco went to the All Star game last year and they booed the dodger representatives.

At the 2007 game in San Francisco, the fans booed the Dodgers and also the players on Anaheim due to the 2002 World Series.  Although they hadn't done anything wrong, we still can't believe that we didn't win it that year.  Booing Dodgers is just something that all Giants' fans are born with.

i think its like that for every team..no fans like to see there rivals players playing for a team that they are rooting for...just imagine nxt yr in stl what the cards fans are gonna d oto the cubbies

Boston fans booed the NYY in the 1999 All Star game at Fenway.  It goes both ways.

I'm guessing that your a sox fan.  Well your pretty d**n late for this question.  LIke 20 people have asked this question.  I guess Red Sox fans are the ones who are pretty childish.  YOu don't see yankees fans bringing this subject up every 5 minutes.  Just let it go and when the All Star game is in Fenway Park, let see who boos who.  It is a Rivalry.  Get over it!

I asked a question like this right after the All-Star game.  I think it's pretty classless that they can't bury the hatchet for 1 lousy game.  Yeah you're rivals, but in this game you are teammates that are trying to achieve the same goal.  Pretty childish in my opinion.

Why do people get so upset about players from a rival team getting booed at the all star game?  

Yes, Red Sox fans booed all Yankee players at Fenway in 1999.  Giants and Dodgers fans boo guys from the other team.  Cubs and White Sox fans would boo guys from the other team. (game was played at Cellular Field, home of the White Sox,  in 2003)

Apparently, most people's memories go back as far as this morning.

The next two all star games will be in St. Louis and Anaheim, I believe.

Fans pay enough to get into the games...they have a right to boo other players, as long as no physical threats are made.

Geez, I hope fans of the Red Sox didn't get their feelings hurt TOO bad by the mean Yankee fans.

And yes, all players DO have the same goal at the all star game... to not make it next year so that they can have a few days off.
