i was wondering what parrot breed would be good for me, i am going to be a first time parrot owner and am going to be gone 8 hours a day. i can afford vet bills if something were to happen, but my parents are going to get one for me as a gift and can only afford up to 400 dollars at this time for a parrot. i would like one that is intelligent, can talk, and can be taught tricks.

and breeders in america, do you have parrots that are in this price range and intelligence? can you give me the link to your site?

thanks!!!!!!

  1. I would get a Parrotlet. They are fun, intelligent, curious and can learn to talk. And if you supply them with lots of fun toys, they won't get upset or lonely when you are gone. They are like tiny parrots( they range from 4 to 6 inches) with huge personalities.

  2. Well, what kind of size and noise level would you and your family be comfortable with?  Remember, it's not just the bird they're buying, but also a safe cage that's big enough, food, perches, and toys.  Also remember that just because a species of parrot is known for talking, doesn't mean every individual will, but even if it doesn't, it can still be amazing company.

  3. i would get a cockatiel in ur case...check out http://www.parrotcentral.net/companion_p... for a guide on diff parrots

  4. Look around for breeders that sell lineolated parakeets. They come in a variety of colors, like budgies and cockatiels, but they are THE best kept secrets in the small parrot world. They're sweet, they're not nearly as noisy as the usual cockatiel or lovebird, and they're relatively inexpensive. I've seen them listed on breeders' websites for less than $200 a piece -- and you should get more than one.

Rosy Bourkes are great little "first birds", too. If you live anywhere near Atlanta, Georgia, there's a bird fair there every month and there are ALWAYS Bourkes (and all kinds of other parrots) for sale by breeders there.

I'll look around for a link and post it.

  5. Look for a Meyers Parrot. They are one of the best, layed back birds for a beginer. Get a young bird, 3 to 4 months old. Get one from a local breeder where you can go and see his breeders and to make sure he takes good care of his birds and keeps them clean.

Don't execpt a bird that is shipped to you, go and see the bird frist hand before you give them money. There are to many scammers out there.
