Question for people who have sold stuff on EBay.?

I was just wonder for those who have done it, how hard or easy is it to sell things on Ebay? (Yes, I am going to read their tutorial!) I'm wanting to sell misc. things on there so I don't have to settle for selling at the flea market or to a consignment shop. People at the Flea market (i call it the Free Market) want you to practically give your stuff away, and the consignment shop pays so little.

I have baby, children's, and adult clothes and shoes, toys, stuffed animals, scrubs, purses, books, etc, etc. at my house just sitting there that I would like to get rid of, but would like to sell for a reasonable price. (I can also make fleece blankets?) I have bought plenty of things on Ebay before but I am a bit nervous about selling, I'm not expecting to make tons of money or sell anything on the first couple of tries, but I was just wondering about other peoples experiences with selling. I am a SAHM, so I would like make any amount of money I can from home, so I can help out too.

  1. you still might not get a lot on ebay - people are still looking for bargains there and don;t expect to sell every item you put for for sale - you might sell one in 10 if you're lucky -

  2. it's pretty easy to sell things on ebay, you just need an account, and having a camera to take detailed photos of your items will help them sell. be aware that it will cost you about 8 dollars to list an item on ebay, they have many small fees, but some things they offer such as making the headline bold can help attract buyers.

  3. I've found that selling on Ebay can be really hit or miss.  I would research the items that you want to sell, i.e. see how well those items are selling on Ebay right now, number of bids, starting price, etc.  Start by listing things that you think have a good chance of selling.  Don't set your list price too high.  I usually use the shipping calculator to calculate the shipping by location.  Good luck!

  4. I sell stuff on there all the time. I signed up years ago so I am not sure how hard it is to start a profile but to list items, it is really simple. If you are handmaking items, go to etsy.com . It is like ebay except for people who are handmaking their items. It is also pretty simple to set up.

IT DOES NOT COST $8 TO LIST UNLESS YOU ARE SELLING AT ITEM FOR LIKE 1000.00. The average listing will cost less than .75 cents and then a small percentage of the ending price.

  5. It's not hard ones you'll get the hang of it, but you also have to keep in mind returns and refunds. Not all is sweet. If you are the seller well you don't have to worry as much because you get the money first than you send the product. But if you are the buyer you are at risk of not getting what you bought. Not everyone is the same. Anyway also ebay will keep a percentage of whatever you sell there, is not much but it would be a lil. Me personally I like ebay right now I have some abecrombie jean on sale and I'm going to do good on those. Well have fun and enjoy it.

  6. I sold on eBay many years ago and it was ok...did not have any problems...it is just that I sell imported handicrafts( purses, jewelry and such) and it became very hard to even get noticed on ebay as so many others were out there selling in same categories...I switched to http://www.livedeal.com

a lot less fees...free mainly....a sales site not an auction site.

  7. I've done it and it was really easy!  I don't know about where you live, but I was able to order empty boxes for free from the USPS and they even delivered them to my doorstep!  If you have an area like a garage or spare room to keep things organized you can have all of the sale items already packed in the open boxes.  Once a sale is made you print out the buyers sale slip put it into the box and print out the shipping label online (this will give you a tracking number too) and tape it to the box.  (Cover the shipping label with clear packing tape to protect it from the weather).  Then you can arrange to have it picked up from your house again.  You really never have to leave home to do it...especially handy if you're a stay at home mom!

  8. I think the days when you could make money selling used socks on Ebay have passed. Used clothes, baby items, and things like that go cheap at flea markets because there is so much of it. To make money on Ebay you have to be able to sell something that people can't get otherwise (your blankets might qualify) or something cheaper than they can get it elsewhere, even after you add shipping costs in. (This is a big deal--for inexpensive items, postage is often more than the item itself.) People will buy high-end clothes and accessories used, but you have to watch out for trademark issues. If you list something from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc., it will probably get pulled as being counterfeit even if it's not. Ebay would rather avoid lawsuits than stand by their sellers. Ebay is a lot of fun and you can make some money, but you have to work at it and find a place in the market that works for you.
