Question:

Question for people who work with children - about tattoos?

Hello, I am getting a white ink tattoo, and also would like to have a career with children, maybe being a nanny or working in a play center.

I'd like to hear from people who work in these areas 'what they think of tattoos in this line of work'

I would like to get a pretty design on my arm in white but if there is even the slightest chance this could affect my work opportunities, I will get it somewhere under my clothes.

Thank you.

Here are some examples of tattoos as I don't mean the kind that bikers have.

  1. Dude, why do you even want to do that to your self! From people who don't have tattoos you are viewed low class! DONT! Plus you can barely even see it!

  2. Personally, I would say keep them some place that can be very easily covered... Especially if you're working with other people's children. While some parents won't mind - others can be stupid and throw a fit because they'll judge you based on the fact that you have a tattoo.

  3. I worked in the field with children for several years.  It is a joy.  However, many parents would be a little alarmed at seeing a "tattooed person" taking care of their children.  Fair or not, that's how it is.  I have tattoos but they are all covered by my shirt or pants.  I would have a full sleeve if it wasn't for management looking down upon having them visible.  I could still get a sleeve, but I don't want to wear long sleeve shirts in the summer.

Many in management would look down upon the tattoos.  You are an extension of their business.  People with tattoos are often unfairly categorized - as Alyssa has done above.  Many, many respectable people have tattoos.  But for your career desires, I would recommend getting it under your shirt or something.  It is true that you can cover it with make up, but why spend all that money if you are going to be covering it all the time?

One thing to remember about the difference between people with tattoos and people without tattoos - people with tattoos don't care if you don't have any.

They are great; they are addictive.

  4. i work with children although in a different setting to what you intend to do, but in my experience having a tattoo on display puts parents off. i myself am looking at having a tattoo over a large scar on my shoulder but i wouldn't get one on display in my line of work.

  5. Alyssa you're an idiot

    tattoos are expensive

my cousins have tattoos and aren't low class

after getting your tattoo, when its healed you can hide it with foundation

  6. Well, If you want a tattoo that's up to you some people like them and some people do not but it is all personal preference. On the other hand, if you are going to be working with kids I would say have it in a hidden place so for one the kids will not see it and go to there parents and say I want that tattoo... and also for the parents not to see it perhaps them thinking it sets a bad example for their kids. Also, a lot of places will not hire you because of the fact that you have a tattoo showing because they would like it hidden at all times. So that is a way that it can effect your work opportunity in the future.
